San Diego Ranked #11 in Startup Activity Again
Once again, San Diego has ranked 11 nationally in the Kauffman Foundation’s Index on Startup Activity. The report looks at factors such as the rate of new entrepreneurs, the opportunity share of new entrepreneurs, and startup density.
KAABOO Uses Local Startup
EvoNexus company Lennd will be hard at work behind the scenes at this weekend’s KAABOO music festival. Lennd is an operating system for events and large productions, helping to manage things like inventory, production schedules, credentials, catering, and more. In addition to KAABOO, Lennd has been a part of Southern California events such as TEN, Air + Style, the Los Angeles Marathon, and NWG Live. The company is still early stage and only in private beta for now.
New Visa Rule for Entrepreneurs
A new rule proposed by the Citizenship and Immigration Service would allow foreign entrepreneurs with at least 15% ownership and a central role in the operations of a company to stay here and work for at least 2 years.
Grant for Female Entrepreneurs
Hera Labs—a growth program for female entrepreneurs to launch or grow their businesses—received a $30,000 grant from the City of San Diego to support women-owned businesses. They will use the money for their 3-month accelerator program, IP and other training, and to host their annual investment conference.
Venture Summit Recap
The Union-Tribune captures some of the thoughts from last week’s Venture Summit, hosted by the San Diego Venture Group. Bottom line—San Diego is a better place to start a business than it was a few years ago and funders are looking for deals outside of the Bay Area.
