LeadCrunch just closed a $500,000 round led by ExCapsa Group and including investors Bialla Venture Partners 2 and David Toth. The money, while helpful to LeadCrunch as they continue to lean into a large competitive industry, is not the real story here. How the funding came about is. This deal was the first successful match created from CONNECT’s Capital Match program. LeadCrunch had gotten other funding offers, but they required the company to relocate to the Bay Area which they didn’t want to do. Through CONNECT, the company was able to get funded and stay in San Diego.

 

Qualcomm Helps Petco Park Become Technology Leader

Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres, has become one of the smartest parks in the country—technologically speaking. Thanks to a partnership with Qualcomm and SDG&E, the park is now full of sensors that help the park monitor energy and water usage. A recent visit from Monty Munford, a contributor to Forbes, put the park back in the national spotlight.

 

Feetz Gets DSW Pop-Up Stores

Feetz, a custom shoe company started by local entrepreneur Lucy Beard in 2013, has just inked a deal with DSW to create two pop-up stores inside their retail locations in New York and San Francisco. Feetz measures “5,000 data points and 22 dimensions of the foot, and then produces a customized, 3D-printed shoe in less than two weeks.”

Pivots and Opportunities

Mitek, a company known for its mobile capture and identify software solutions, is moving downtown. The new space at 600 B Street boasts 29,000 square feet and locates the company in what its Chairman and CEO James DeBello called “the epicenter of the San Diego technology ecosystem.”
