A virtual energy manager for businesses, a portable charger for electric cars, and small wind turbines that can power a high-rise are just some of the eco-friendly technologies that could come to market thanks to a new accelerator program. Cleantech San Diego, a local nonprofit that helps nascent companies find resources and funding, recently accepted its first class of companies into the program from San Diego and beyond.
The ten firms all have the planet’s health and sustainability in mind: SenseOps, Evolutionary Energy Solutions, Correlate, and Conectric created software systems to help businesses, commercial buildings, and hotels use less energy; “Juice Box” EV chargers from Bay Area–based eMotorWerks are portable and easy to install at home, and San Diego’s Primo Wind created small wind power systems that can work off-grid or on home rooftops.
The new accelerator was funded by a $5-million dollar grant from the California Energy Commission—it’s refreshing to see news of a government agency putting money into the environment!
