Follow the Money
In late June, Cloudbeds, a provider of hospitality management software for independent hotel-type properties, raised a $9 million Series B round. The round was led by PeakSpan Capital and included Nashville Capital, Cultivation Capital, ClearVision Equity, and TTCER Partners. This round brings their total financing to date to $20 million.
Waud Capital invested an undisclosed amount in ChiroTouch, a provider of electronic health records and practice management software for chiropractic and other therapy providers. “ChiroTouch’s goal is to continue to be the premier chiropractic software provider to the market and build on its impressive track record of success,” said George Ahn, an Operating Executive at Waud Capital. “The company has become the most trusted solution within its specialty focus area, and has built an incredibly rich product offering that supports deep customer relationships. I look forward to working with Robert [Moberg, CEO] and the impressive team at ChiroTouch as we grow the company through significant investments that will broaden our offerings and deliver even greater value for customers.”
AI Night Light
Zing just launched a Kickstarter campaign for its night light powered by artificial intelligence (and electricity, of course). Zing will not only light your way in the dark of night, it will also predict your path, display the color and brightness you desire, find your keys, and work with Alexa. The campaign has 36 days left to raise $52,500 and so far has brought in $17,542. Backers will receive their Zing Night Lights in December of 2017.
Terradata Acquires StackIQ
Terradata, a global data and analytics company based in San Diego, has acquired StackIQ, also a local company that helps businesses manage bare metal environments. Bare metal environments are situations in which a virtual machine is installed directly on hardware instead of into an operating system. They help manage everything from big data to container deployment to data center operation. “Teradata prides itself on building and investing in solutions that make life easier for our customers,” said Oliver Ratzesberger, Executive Vice President and Chief Product Officer for Teradata. “Only the best, most innovative and applicable technology is added to our ecosystem, and StackIQ delivers with products that excel in their field.”
Ingenu Introduces Vigilant
The IoT connectivity experts at Ingenu have partnered with San Antonio-based Wise Wear to create Vigilant, a personal security device. It is a small wearable device that can be clipped to a keychain, watch, or clip, and will have direct emergency access to the internet and emergency response dispatch centers. The device was designed for “high risk targets” such as children, college students, executives, seniors, and international travelers.
East Village Tech Hub Still Developing
It has been the talk for years – that East Village and just north of there would become San Diego’s tech and innovation hub. Maker’s Quarter has big plans to redevelop several city blocks currently owned by the Navarro family. And IDEA1 has also had plans on creating a space for startups and collaboration. The wait may soon be over as IDEA1 may be coming to fruition this year. Philadelphia-based Seer Interactive plans to relocate its West coast office from Little Italy to IDEA1 by the end of the year.
