This San Diego Eyewear Company Raises Funds for Arts Education

The proceeds from Knockaround’s sunglasses designed by local elementary school students benefit art programs

Want to up your eyewear game and support a great cause at the same time? San Diego-based Knockaround Sunglasses has teamed up with local elementary school students to create a special pair of shades that will raise money for arts education. Knockaround’s “Class Acts” campaign, where fourth- and fifth-graders design their own sunglasses, is now in its sixth year. However, unlike prior years, there’s not one winning design, there’s three pairs to pick from.

Each pair is $30, and 100 percent of the proceeds go toward resources and art supplies for underfunded elementary schools.

“Every year, we are amazed by the creativity and ideas these kids come up with, so deciding which ones to produce is always hard,” Knockaround founder Adam “Ace” Moyer said. “We produced three amazing pairs designed by three very talented students. This increase in our Class Acts lineup will help us donate even more money to art education.”

Fulton Elementary fourth-grader Amaya’s supernova design became Knockaround’s Galaxy Premiums; green crocodile-themed shades called Croc in the Swamp Premiums were the brainchild of Perry Elementary fourth-grader Brayden; and Perry Elementary fifth-grader Danielle’s love for pancakes inspired her design for Mr. Butter Premiums.

To date, Knockaround has raised more than $60,000 for elementary art education in San Diego County. “I feel lucky to have seen art as a viable path for myself and I want to create more opportunities for young people to pursue their artistic careers through its Class Acts program,” Moyer said.
