Salk Researchers Find that a Dietary Supplement can Fight Bacteria
Researchers tested whether giving mice an iron supplement enabled them to survive a normally lethal bacterial intervention. The animals lived, and later generations of the bacteria were less virulent. The research supports additional ways to treat infectious diseases, such as promoting the health of the host and boosting the “cooperative defense system,” which promotes health during host-microbe interactions.
Forge Therapeutics Achieves a Milestone in Antibiotic Development to Fight Superbugs
Millions of people around the globe have become infected with bacteria that are resistant to current antibiotic treatments, or “superbugs,” creating a global health epidemic. Forge achieved a technical milestone toward advancing a Gram-negative antibiotic to clinic. With this milestone, Forge can receive up to $4 million in additional support from Carb-X, a public-private partnership funded by BARDA to accelerate early antibacterial research and development.
JLL’s Market Outlook Ranks San Diego Third in Life Science Markets
The report scores life science markets based on the latest data, including employment concentration and growth, venture capital funding, market occupancy rate and average asking rent. San Diego ranked third behind the Greater Boston Area and San Francisco Bay Area. The report also calls out a trend in new and nimble models in collaboration and flexibility to manage high real-estate costs.

JLabs is looking for lung-cancer-specific applications by September 14 for the Lung Cancer Innovation QuickFire Challenge.
