ARE Equities Launches Alexandria GradLabs for Post-Incubator Startups

Alexandria GradLabs is a new real estate platform launched by Alexandria Real Estate (ARE) Equities, Inc. “to provide post-seed-stage life science companies with turnkey, fully furnished office/laboratory suites.” The project is expected to be completed in 2020 and will be located at Campus Pointe by Alexandria in University Town Center. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, this space “provides the logical next step in providing ‘highly curated’ space for growing companies that have passed the incubator stage.”

 

Female-Led Ad Astra Ventures Opens Applications for Third Cohort of Startups

The deadline is Friday, March 8 for female-led startups to apply to Ad Astra Ventures’ accelerator program. The program has had a mix of life science, technology, and consumer product companies and will run from April 8 to May 31. According to San Diego Business Journal, those selected for the program “will receive business training, formal mentoring and a $20,000 seed investment.”

 

Section 32 Raises $200 Million for Second Venture Capital Fund

Founded by Bill Maris in 2017, Section 32 has quietly stayed under the radar, until recently when one of its portfolio companies was acquired for $3.4 billion in cash and another raised $176 million in an IPOAccording to Xconomy, who reported on an SEC filing, Section 32 has raised nearly $200 million of a $300 million fund.

The Future of Individualized Medicine (formerly the Future of Genomic Medicine) will take place March 14-15 in La Jolla.

April 2:

SDBN is launching a new series of called “SDBN After Work” to provide more regular networking opportunities.  The first one will take place April 2 at Gravity Heights in Sorrento Valley.
