UC San Diego Opens Center for Novel Therapeutics
UC San Diego and BioMed Realty have opened a new building at UC San Diego’s Science Research Park to house the Center for Novel Therapeutics. The Center’s goal is to advance scientific research performed at the Moores Cancer Center into clinical trials and eventually to novel therapeutics. According to The San Diego Union-Tribune, “Moores Cancer Center and private companies are to partner in that research-to-therapy transition.”
Boundless Bio Raises $46 Million Series A to Tackle Extra DNA to Treat Cancer
Boundless Bio was formed to develop novel therapeutics to target extrachromosomal DNA (ecDNA) that is associated with driving the survival of aggressive cancer cells. In the company’s press release, ecDNA is described as, “large circles of DNA, located outside the chromosomes but within the nucleus of a cell.” ecDNA that encodes oncogenes can drive tumor growth and progression as well as drug resistance. According to Xconomy, Boundless has “figured out how to identify tumors with ecDNA, and how to target them with drugs.” The company has closed the $46 Million Series A financing, which was co-led by ARCH Venture Partners and City Hill Ventures.
San Diego Angel Conference Opens Up Entrepreneur Track
The San Diego Angel Conference, which will take place March 28, 2020, works to connect angel investors and “fundable entrepreneurs.” In preparation for the conference, they have opened up the Entrepreneur Track, a series of workshops designed to prepare an entrepreneur to compete in the angel investing environment. The series runs from September to December, and each session is designed to stand alone. Interested entrepreneurs can register and participate in the entire series or selected individual sessions.
