The leading cause of death for women in the United States isn’t breast cancer; it’s heart disease. For years, heart disease was mistakenly thought of as something that happens primarily to men, and its affects on women weren’t considered in research and treatment. Scripps Health just opened the Women’s Heart Center at its La Jolla campus, and it’s led by four female cardiologists—Poulina Uddin, Christina Adams, Elizabeth Kaback, and Namee Kim—to provide care exclusively for women. The center is also participating in clinical trials.
